Long before the first therapy office or psychiatric practice existed, people gathered in forests, around fires, in temples, and beneath open skies to seek healing. Across cultures and throughout history, practices that expanded consciousness were woven into traditions of healing, self-discovery, and community. These included plant medicines, breathwork, movement, meditation, chanting, ritual, yoga, and more. While each culture held its own unique beliefs and practices, many shared a common understanding:
Profound transformation sometimes asks us to step beyond our ordinary ways of experiencing ourselves and the world.
Modern mental health did not invent these experiences. In many ways, it is rediscovering them. As research continues to deepen our understanding of psychedelic-assisted therapy and other approaches that intentionally cultivate expanded states of consciousness, we are finding scientific language for practices that have supported healing for generations.
At Stonegrove, we believe the future of mental health is strengthened by remembering its oldest roots. We do not see ketamine-assisted psychotherapy as revolutionary to the field of mental health, but a means to reclaim practices of healing used throughout history. Our work brings together the wisdom of these time-honored healing traditions with the safety, ethics, and evidence-informed practices of modern psychotherapy. Every experience is thoughtfully prepared, facilitated, and integrated so that moments of insight become meaningful, lasting change.

If you are interested in beginning ketamine-assisted healing with us, we will connect you with our collaborating medical prescriber for a comprehensive medical evaluation to determine eligibility and, if indicated, provide your ketamine prescription.
After your medical evaluation, you may schedule your treatment sessions at either our Cincinnati or Newport office, whichever location is most convenient for you. Each treatment room is intentionally designed to promote comfort and relaxation, with comfortable seating, blankets, pillows, eye masks, thoughtfully selected music, and other supportive comfort items available throughout your experience. The Ketamine ExperienceKetamine-assisted psychotherapy has emerged as a promising treatment for a range of mental health conditions, particularly for individuals whose symptoms have not adequately responded to traditional approaches such as medication or psychotherapy alone. Research has demonstrated that ketamine can rapidly reduce symptoms of depression while also enhancing neuroplasticity, creating a window of opportunity in which psychotherapy may facilitate meaningful and lasting psychological change. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may be appropriate for individuals experiencing treatment-resistant depression, major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), chronic suicidal ideation, grief, existential distress, and certain chronic pain conditions. It may also benefit individuals seeking to address longstanding emotional patterns, increase psychological flexibility, and deepen therapeutic work when conventional treatments have reached a plateau. Because every individual is unique, a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation is essential to determine whether ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is an appropriate and safe treatment option.
Every ketamine experience is unique. While there are many common themes, no two sessions, and no two individuals, experience ketamine in exactly the same way. The effects typically begin within several minutes of administration and gradually subside over the course of approximately one to two hours. Throughout the experience, you remain in a safe, supportive environment while your clinician monitors your comfort and well-being. Many people describe entering a deeply relaxed, dreamlike state. Some experience vivid imagery, intricate landscapes, symbolic scenes, or meaningful memories, while others notice gentle patterns of light, shifting colors, or abstract visual experiences. Some individuals experience little to no visual imagery at all, yet report profound emotional or psychological benefits. It is also common to notice changes in the perception of time, a feeling of physical lightness or floating, or a temporary sense of distance from one's usual thoughts and worries. These experiences can create an opportunity to observe emotions, memories, and patterns from a new perspective, often with greater curiosity and less emotional reactivity. During treatment, speaking is often possible but may feel unnecessary or difficult, as many individuals naturally turn their attention inward. Some people experience moments of deep peace, awe, gratitude, or emotional release, while others encounter challenging emotions that can be explored safely with therapeutic support. There is no "right" way to experience ketamine, and the intensity of the experience does not determine the effectiveness of treatment. Following the session, most people feel tired, reflective, or mentally "soft" for the remainder of the day, which is why we recommend avoiding work, major responsibilities, or important decisions until the following day. By the next morning, many individuals report feeling physically back to normal while noticing subtle shifts in mood, perspective, emotional openness, or cognitive flexibility. Some describe feeling lighter, calmer, or more hopeful, while others simply notice that familiar thoughts and emotional patterns seem less rigid than before. These changes often become most meaningful when paired with intentional integration through psychotherapy, allowing insights from the ketamine experience to translate into lasting growth and meaningful change in everyday life.
Ketamine Treatment Session Process - Individual
Ketamine treatment is not a one-size-fits all experience. Below is our recommended framework, heavily relying on integration of the experience. Each Ketamine treatment session consists of three sub sessions- Preparation, Treatment, and Integration. Research and clinical experience consistently suggest that psychotherapy integrated with ketamine treatment produces more durable and meaningful outcomes than ketamine alone. While the medicine may create a window of increased neuroplasticity and psychological flexibility, it is the integration process that helps transform temporary shifts into enduring change. For this reason, we consider integration to be the cornerstone of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and one of the most important investments you can make in your healing journey.
Preparation and Intention Setting Session
Healing begins before the medicine session itself. During your preparation appointment, you'll meet with your psychedelic therapist to prepare for your ketamine experience, explore your story and therapeutic goals, and develop a meaningful intention to guide the process. Together, you'll discuss what to expect, identify areas you'd like to explore, and cultivate the emotional foundation needed to approach the experience with openness, curiosity, and confidence, creating the conditions for a safe, supported, and purposeful journey.
Treatment Session
We encourage you to arrive a few minutes early and spend time in our transition room, allowing yourself to settle in, disconnect from the demands of the day, and enter the session with a calm, receptive mindset.
Once you're ready, your ketamine will be administered by our collaborating medical provider or self-administered, according to your individualized treatment plan. Based on your prescription, this may be a nasal spray, an injection, or an oral method. We do not provide IV infusions. Throughout your experience, your clinician will remain nearby to monitor your safety and comfort, offering gentle support when needed while also honoring the deeply personal and inward nature of the experience.
Following your treatment, you'll return to the transition room to rest, enjoy water and light snacks, and begin gently integrating the experience before leaving with your designated driver. This time allows your mind and body to gradually reorient, creating space for reflection and a smooth transition back into your day.
Integration Session
The medicine experience is only one part of the healing process. Lasting change happens through integration: the intentional process of making sense of your experience and translating it into meaningful changes in everyday life. Without integration, even the most profound insights can gradually fade. With integration, those insights become the foundation for lasting healing, new perspectives, and sustainable behavioral change.
During your integration session, you and your therapist will work together to explore the thoughts, emotions, memories, imagery, and insights that emerged during your ketamine experience. Using approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, expressive arts, somatic awareness, and other evidence-informed interventions, you'll deepen your understanding of what arose and identify practical ways to carry that work into your daily life. Whether your experience felt deeply meaningful, emotionally challenging, or simply quiet and subtle, every session offers opportunities for growth. For those doing multiple sessions, we can combine the integration session with the intention setting session for the next treatment.
We believe healing is about more than medication.
Psychedelics are a powerful catalyst for change, but we believe lasting healing comes from the therapeutic work that surrounds the medicine. Every aspect of our program is designed to help you make meaningful use of the neuroplasticity and insights that psychedelics can create. We focus far more heavily than other ketamine treatment centers on the preparation and integration of the medicine, treating the medicine as a tool to support life-changing integration, but not as the catalyst for change.
We do this work because it changed us.
Our clinicians and our collaborating prescriber have personally experienced the transformative and life-changing power of psychedelic-assisted healing, and we are happy to share our stories and experiences with you to support your comfort. While every journey is unique, our own lived experiences with psychedelic healing allow us to approach this work with humility, authenticity, and a deep appreciation for the courage it takes to begin.
Extensively trained in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.
Our therapists have completed advanced, intensive training in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and integration. We combine this specialized education with years of clinical experience treating trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and complex emotional concerns.
Integration is the heart of our program.
Many clinics focus primarily on medication administration. At Stonegrove, we believe the medicine opens the door, but the therapy helps you walk through it. We devote significant time to preparation, intention setting, and integration because these stages are where many of the most meaningful and lasting changes occur.
A slower, more intentional approach.
We are not a high-volume treatment center and never will be. We intentionally structure our program to allow time for preparation before treatment, a supportive therapeutic presence during the experience, and thoughtful integration afterward. Our goal is not simply to administer ketamine, but to facilitate lasting psychological growth.
Trauma-informed from beginning to end.
Every aspect of our program is grounded in trauma-informed care. We recognize that profound healing occurs when individuals feel emotionally and physically safe, respected, and empowered throughout the process.
Opportunities for healing in community.
Healing does not always have to happen alone. In addition to individual treatment, we offer opportunities for shared preparation and integration experiences, allowing clients to connect with others in a safe, professionally facilitated environment. Many individuals find that being witnessed by others on similar journeys reduces shame, fosters belonging, and deepens the healing process.
Designed for whole-person healing.
Our work extends beyond symptom reduction. We help clients cultivate self-compassion, strengthen their relationship with their authentic Self, process unresolved experiences, and build meaningful changes that continue long after the medicine session has ended.
